Business Buzz column by Michael Bagshaw
COLLABORATIVE farming takes many forms. One method consists of tipping land and equipment in together and farming as one operation. There are quasi share-farming/collaboration arrangements and some syndicate machinery. The main impediment in any sharing of farm resources is usually the mindset around doing this. Farmers have independence in their DNA and there is usually a well-worn line of reasons why sharing plant and equipment or other resources doesn’t work.
Bagshaw Agri Advisory was formed in 2004 by Michael Bagshaw. We work closely with our farming clients and are there for them during the ups and the downs. We have their back.
Michael has an extensive hands-on agricultural background; he also holds qualifications in accounting and finance.
We take the hassle out of dealing with banks directly. We know exactly what information banks require, and the format they require the information in. The information we gather among other things is designed to give your business the best risk rating possible, and by natural extension, the lowest interest rate.
We negotiate with lenders to obtain the best outcome for your business, this gives you time and space to concentrate on running your business.
Bagshaw Agri Advisory partners with multiple financial institutions and matches the agribusiness with the most appropriate lender, taking into account not just the lowest interest rate, but other key factors that are important for a progressive farming business.
One of our specialties is restructuring finance. This is usually after a farming business transfers land ownership to another entity within the family group. This type of finance can be complex and there can be unintended consequences if not structured correctly. We work closely with accountants and lawyers to ensure that restructuring is concluded successfully.
We also offer advisory board services to forward thinking, progressive agri businesses. We work with farming business that are looking for another set of eyes to look over their operations, and someone who has extensive contacts with high quality accountants and lawyers. We also have extensive experience with syndication and collaborative situations.
